About

Alex Blue (she/her) is a Jewish-Mexican folk singer-songwriter from Aurora, CO. With a diverse range of influences spanning from Fleetwood Mac and Joni Mitchell to Shaun Colvin, Patty Griffin, and Gaby Moreno, Alex's music carries echoes of nostalgia intertwined with contemporary storytelling. Her unique blend of folk songwriting and pop-inspired melodies sets her songs apart. As a neurodivergent artist, she brings a unique perspective to her songwriting, exploring her inner world as a landscape of its own.

Alex's music career began under the moniker "Alex G" during YouTube's golden era. She became one of the fastest-growing music channels on the platform, collaborating with major brands like Disney and NBC and with acclaimed writers like Jason Mraz, Lauren Christy, and Jason Reeves. She embarked on numerous tours as both a supporting act and a headliner, captivating audiences with her humor and depth. Her music has resonated with fans worldwide, leading to sold-out shows and international acclaim. But despite her early successes, Alex faced mounting pressure to maintain a carefully crafted image and an endless output of content. This took a toll on her mental health, and in a pivotal moment, she chose to prioritize her well-being and artistic integrity and stepped back to focus on her craft.

In 2020, Alex made a significant shift, rebranding herself as Alex Blue to signal a new chapter in her artistry. Her debut EP, Good Company, marked an exploration of her evolving identity and musical direction; with throwback covers featuring Rita Wilson, Sleeping At Last, and award-winning Norwegian folk group Darling West, Alex began carving out her niche in the folk music scene.

Her latest recordings from Kin are a group effort from the start, being crowdfunded by 565 people from all over the world. Alex co-produced with Latifah Alattas, Lucas Morton, and Megan McCormick, and the songs are backed by an all-woman band featuring Megan McCormick, Megan Coleman, and Butterfly Boucher.

Kin's musical memoir of family ties, diaspora, loss, and queer motherhood. From start to finish it showcases the depth and diversity of Alex’s songwriting. “There's Always Something,” featuring Scottish folk artist and multi-instrumentalist Hannah Read, weaves together lush harmonies and intricate bluegrass-inspired instrumentation. “Fever Dream” blends sweet melodies with heartbreaking tension and grit. The soaring, soul-folk song “Never Been High” is a queer love anthem that features Jackson Browne-inspired choral layers, while “Neil Young Song” showcases stripped-back vocals and vivid storytelling with Megan McCormick as a featured artist. At the heart of Kin is its final track, “May It Change You.” The song, written for Alex’s son Auden, is a reflection on impermanence, beauty, and staying soft to the world. The blessing she offers her son is the same one she offers her listeners through: Whatever you find, may it change you.
